New Marvel Series In The Works For Disney’s Streaming Service

With the news that Lucasfilm is officially bringing a Star Wars live-action series to the Disney streaming service, comes some Marvel TV news too. Disney CEO chairman Bob Iger has confirmed that another Marvel live-action series is in the works, but this one will be debuting on the new streaming service.

Given that the streaming service is coming out in 2019, it’s safe to say that the mystery show will be premiere that year. No producers or details were revealed about the new project other than that this is the first Marvel show to not go to streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

This also goes a bit into what the future holds for Marvel TV on streaming services outside the Walt Disney company. According to Wall Street Journal, don’t expect Netflix to get any new Marvel shows. The current properties, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher are said to stay on Netflix for the time being. But only time will tell what will happen once the streaming service officially launches.

Hulu has the Runaways coming up in two weeks while Freeform has Cloak & Dagger set for next year. New Warriors, the comedy series that was supposed to air on Freeform, is currently in the search for a new home. When it was revealed that New Warriors would no longer air on Freeform, reports stated that it could make the jump to Disney’s new platform.

ABC has Agents of SHIELD which is kicking off its fifth season next month, with Inhumans set to air its season one finale this Friday. A while back it was revealed by Marvel Senior VP of Original Programming that the Disney network was developing a Jessica Jones-esque series. There’s still the secret ABC-Marvel project from John Ridley that is supposedly still in the works.

What do you think the untitled Marvel show could be about? Which character would you want it to center around? Sound off in the comments below.
