New Warriors Leaves Freeform; Comedy Series To Find New Home

A few months ago, it was revealed that Freeform would be bringing another Marvel series to its network for 2018 in the form of New Warriors. From executive producer Kevin Biegel (Scrubs, Cougar Town), the series had been greenlit for 10 episodes and while the show is still happening, there have been some new developments.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that New Warriors will no longer be airing on Freeform after all. According to the trade, the show will be shopped around elsewhere, but there is a catch. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed it, THR states that due to Disney’s upcoming streaming service, New Warriors isn’t allowed to be sold to outside companies.

While the new streaming service could seemingly become the show’s new home, Marvel reportedly really wants the show to premiere next year. It is still possible that New Warriors can be taken out to various streaming services. According to THR, production is rumored to start up again in January if a new home is found for the comedy series by then.

“Marvel’s New Warriors” is about six young people with powers living and working together.  With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world… Even if the world isn’t ready.  Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.”
