Ahead of it’s domestic debut this weekend, it’s looking like Thor: Ragnarok is aiming to exceed expectations. Tracking for the film has it opening in the $100-118M range currently but this latest bit of news hints that it might go much higher. Fandango (via Variety) is reporting that the threequel is out-selling Sony & Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Homecoming at a similar point in the sales cycle. That film went on to debut to $117M when it hit theaters back in July. So, if Thor: Ragnarok continues to outsell that film, that means that we could see an opening north of $120M for the third entry in the tranchise. Ragnarok has already opened up to an impressive $109M overseas and it’s estimated to cross the $400M mark by Sunday after it opens domestically as well as in both China and Japan.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
