Things are about to heat up over in the X-Men universe. Or as the youth would say: It’s lit. Alright. Even I’m embarassed for myself after that one, so let’s just move on yeah? Entertainment Weekly has provided our first look at Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut hitting theaters late next year. Additionally, the outlet has provided some first details for the next entry in the main X-Men franchise.
Set in 1992, about 10 years after the events of last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix opens with the X-Men, including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), in a new, unexpected role: national heroes. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) even lands on the cover of Time magazine. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.
Director Simon Kinberg added the Pride is “is starting to get the better of him (Charles Xavier), and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions.” It’s after they are dispatched to space for a rescue mission that a solar flare hits the X-Jet which ignites the power within Jean Grey known as the Phoenix. According to series star James McAvoy, this next entry in the X-Men franchise “is probably the most emotional X-Men we’ve done and the most pathos-driven,” reveals Professor Xavier actor James McAvoy. Check out a gallery of images for the film as well as the cover for the issue below and let us know what you think about these new plot details in the comments section afterwards.
