The Exiles are back. Marvel announced today a new Exiles comic from writer Saladin Ahmed, artist Javier Rodriguez, and colorist Jordie Bellaire.
In the new ongoing book, Nick Fury, now the Unseen, will assemble the team featuring Blink, Khan, Iron Lad and Wolvie to fight an evil force threatening all of existence.
“Exiles is a two-fisted, big-hearted wild ride of a book about a diverse team of alternate universe Marvel heroes banding together to stop a dire threat to the multiverse. Sort of What If? meets classic X-Men,” Ahmed said in a statement.
While some of these characters might sound familiar, the versions in this book will be different from the ones we’ve already seen in Marvel comics. For example, Kamala Khan in this comic is an older, more grizzled version, which you can see in the cover art.
As Marvel has done with almost all of its team book announcements of late, the full lineup remains a mystery with one figure still missing from the revealed cover.
Marvel released the first Exiles issue in 2001 and the last relaunch of the title was in 2009, running only for a short time. Ahmed promises this relaunch of the title will be full of easter eggs for old fans but also friendly to new readers.
Fans of Marvel’s television shows might note that a different version of Blink is currently also featured as a character on Fox’s The Gifted. However, there doesn’t appear to be any plan to tie the comic book to the show.
Exiles #1 hits stores April 11, 2018.
