Fox Collects First Adapted Screenplay Nomination For Logan

Things are starting to get marvelous in Hollywood. The studio collected the first ever Adapted screenplay nomination for Logan from director James Mangold and writers Scott Frank and Micheal Green. Logan will be the first superhero film ever nominated for an award that doesn’t include Art Direction, Sound, Sound editing, or visual effects. The film is based on the Old Man Logan comics from creator Mark Millar that focus on Logan in a dystopian landscape after the United States is overtaken by supervillains. Logan ultimately wanders the desert landscape with Bruce Banner’s son, attempting to raise him to be a heroic avenger, unlike the monster his father became.

Logan joins Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ‘s  Christopher Townsend, Guy Williams, Jonathan Fawkner and Dan Sudick who were nominated for visual effects. Marvel films are routinely nominated for visual effects awards and sound editing, showcasing the incredible talent of the creative people behind bringing the powers of the beloved superheroes to life. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is up against some stiff competition with War for the Planet of the Apes, Kong: Skull Island, and Blade Runner: 2049.

Logan is up against even stiffer competition with the superhero picture going up against Call me by your Name from James Ivory, The Disaster Artist from Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, Molly’s Game from Aaron Sorkin, and Mudbound from Virgil Williams and Dee Rees. Mudbound is a major contender with Dee Reese being the first black woman nominated for the adapted screenplay category. It’s going to be a tight race between every film on the list!

Even if Logan doesn’t win, it’s still making history by being the first superhero film to be nominated for the award. With Black Panther heading to theaters in February (and Black Panther’s DP Rachel Morrison nominated for Mudbound ) could Logan be clearing the way for T’Challa to take the adapted screenplay throne in 2018? Let the speculation begin!

Were you sad that other superhero films didn’t get nominated? Hoping that Logan picked up some other awards? Excited? Sound off and share your feelings in the comments below and don’t forget to tune into the oscars March 4th, 2018.
