2. America Chavez
It’s super easy in the wake of Black Panther and Captain Marvel to assume that Marvel might be setting up The Ultimates. The superhero team featuring Monica Rambeau, America Chavez, Blue Marvel (Adam Brashear) and of course T’Challa and Carol Danvers. That’s up for debate but it’s awesome to consider America Chavez and the Utopian Parallel getting featured as a location in the MCU.
For those who don’t know about America Chavez, here’s a quick rundown. America Chavez was raised by other mothers Amalia and Elena Chavez in the Utopian Parallel, a reality out of space and time and in the presence of the Demiurge, also known as William ‘Billy’ Kaplan the son of Wanda Maximoff and The Vision. While discussions can be had about introducing the Young Avengers into the mix and what it would mean to the LGBTQ community, introducing America Chavez is essential, and with it a Utopian Parallel that has a distinctly Meso-American and Latinx feel.
The MCU is full of stories about mystical realms like Asgard, Wakanda, Attilan, and Marvel’s version of New York City. What’s missing is a city with a distinctly Latinx feeling. An America Chavez movie would be an opportunity to give much-needed representation to an underrepresented group in media. Creating a world where America grows up strong, powerful, and focusing it on Latinx culture would be a great way to build on the model of Black Panther and give other opportunities for different marginalized groups to shine. Disney Pixar’s Coco shared a glimpse of a rich and vibrant culture with audiences and applying that same color to the live action world of the MCU would be great.
Essential to the creation of the Utopian parallel is drawing from all of the people who created America Chavez but especially the work of Gabby Rivera. Since America’s mothers sacrificed themselves to save Utopia she’d have an opportunity to visit and center new stories around the universe. Giving people a chance to explore the Utopian Parallel would be a great way for fans who have hoped to see themselves on camera to have a unique and special city in the MCU to call their own. Actresses like Gina Rodriguez, America Ferrera, and Stephanie Beatz have all discussed an America Chavez series and it’s clearly time to see it be brought to life by these fierce Latinas who are ready to take charge and bring America Chavez (and the Young Avengers) to the MCU.
It’s even an opportunity to have Gabriel Luna jump into the films with America jumping across dimensions just in time for Ghost Rider to jump into the MCU officially and properly. With the recent resurgence of the #WeWantGhostrider hashtag, fans are clamoring to see more of Gabriel Luna’s adventures as Robbie Reyes.
