IAIN DECAESTECKER AND ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE AS FITZ AND SIMMONS
Throughout the constant reinvention of the show, the one constant has been Fitz and Simmons. The pair of scientist friends (“I’m engineering, she’s Biochem”) have become more than friends since the first season and have endured untold trials and tribulations. Widely regarded as the ship of Agents of SHIELD, fans love the pair of scientists and want to protect them at all costs.
They certainly needed protecting. From fighting off aliens to having Simmons stranded on an alien planet to being stranded the Framework these characters have been through a lot. From Elizabeth Henstridge’s pivotal “4,722 Hours” to Iain DeCaester’s turn in the Framework as the left hand of Madame Hydra torturing Inhumans, the two have seen dozens opportunities to grow as characters and to grow closer together. Not even time or space can keep them apart.
Offscreen the actors have an adorable chemistry with each other as well as their castmates. The SHIELD team is a family in more ways than one and like a family it prides itself on putting each of its members through the wringer. Iain and Elizabeth haven’t just been put through the ringer, they’ve risen above it. They own the ringer and hopefully will own the ringer all the way until their wedding so that fans can, at last, have their magical moment where FitzSimmons becomes FitzSimmons and walk down the aisle together.
