SHIELD 100: Agents of SHIELD’s Top Five Performances

CLARK GREGG AS PHIL COULSON

The director at number 2? It was a tough call. Clark Gregg isn’t just a great character on the Agents of SHIELD, he’s an icon. His performance from the Avengers film was so good it was written into the comic books and television show. And he has done some of his best work on Agents of SHIELD.

Thanks to the fans and their #CoulsonLives Campaign, Clark Gregg came back to life and arguably changed the direction of the MCU. Suddenly death wasn’t forever and dealing with the fallout from that has been the burden that Gregg has taken on-with grace, humor, and aplomb. Phil Coulson is more than just a staple tying the Marvel universe together, he’s an inspiring figure, a mentor, and a friend. He brings such humor and heart to Coulson- traits often underappreciated in a leader.

Gregg has even stepped behind the camera, directing season 5 episode 6, “Fun and Games”. This was the episode that saw FitzSimmons get together at last on the show – officially solidifying their intent to get married

Activist, parent, agent, and all around badass on screen and off, Clark Gregg has embodied Phil Coulson and created a performance that’s been written into the pages of history and will affect fans for many years to come.
