Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse Reveals Villains and Peter Parker Actor

Sony Pictures didn’t let the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War stop it from revealing its own Marvel news with a Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse panel at CinemaCon. In addition to new footage, the panel also revealed three villains for the film as well as the voice actor for Peter Parker.

Comic Book reports that at least three villains are confirmed for the film: Green Goblin, Kingpin, and the Prowler. Based on footage shown it looks like they will be inspired by their Ultimate comic counterparts. Most interestingly, the Ultimate version of the Prowler is none other than the uncle of Spider-Man Miles Morales.

While the film will focus specifically on Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), we also now know that Peter Parker will appear in the film as voiced by Jake Johnson (New Girl, Jurassic World).

What’s not clear is which version of Peter Parker he will voice. Based on the film title and Miles’ comic origin story that includes the Peter on his earth dying, it’s likely the Peter shown in this new footage is from a different earth.

Traditionally in the comics, the whole idea of “Spiderverse” is that there are Spider-characters on different earths throughout the multiverse who meet and team up. This also leads us to wonder what other Spiderverse characters might show up in the film.

For now, we’re just excited to see Miles Morales make his big screen debut. With The Lego Movie creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller credited as producers, we have high hopes for this film.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse premieres in theatres on December 14, 2018
