The Marvel Report had a chance to sit down with the cast of Marvel’s Runaways at New York Comic Con to talk about Season 2. Read on for highlights from our interviews with Ariela Barer (Gert Yorkes) and Allegra Acosta (Molly Hernandez) and check out the videos for the full interviews.
Ariela Barer (Gert Yorkes)
Maybe one of the most quotable characters in Season 1, fierce feminist Gert Yorkes quickly became a fan favorite.
However, this season Ariela Barer says we’ll get to see more of Gert’s vulnerable side as she tries to cope with her mental health problems away from her parents.
“[In the show] I’ve lost my medication. So I got to spend hiatus learning about withdrawal from that kind of medication and talking to people and doing research and also just investigating within myself what that anxiety would be like.”
As far as for her relationships with other characters, Barer was happy that Gert got up the courage to pursue Chase in Season 1.
“I loved the slow burn, and I loved that it got to be the girl unapologetically pursuing the guy. She could be kind of like the quirky hopeless romantic and not feel shame for it.”
Things with adopted sister Molly are also different this season.
“They’re both
While the teen drama elements are still there, fans can expect even more intensity this season.
“Everything’s out on the line right now and we’re discovering the truths about people really quickly, and it’s scary.”
“And it was scary as an actor, a lot of the stuff was really challenging… The writers trusted us this year with some really intense material that I’m excited about.”
Barer notes the actual production of the show was also much more intense this season, letting the show live up to its name.
“Our very first day on set this year was… a 14-hour day of just running constantly, and we were like, “Okay, we’re setting the tone pretty early that we are the Runaways…and the stakes are much higher.'”
