Marvel announced a partnership with digital book platform Serial Box that will lead to new stories for popular Marvel heroes including Black Panther, Thor, Black Widow and Jessica Jones.
Rather than the full stories being released at once, episodes will be released weekly and accessible in audio and e-book formats.
The first story to be published will feature Thor and arrive in summer 2019. The writing team will be led by screenwriter Aaron Stewart-Ahn (Mandy) and includes Brian Keene (The Horror Show with Brian Keene), Jay Edidin (Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men), and Yoon Ha Lee (Ninefox Gambit).
Other characters confirmed for stories include Black Panther, Black Widow, and Jessica Jones. The entire line will be overseen by comic book writer Alex de Campi (Archie vs. Predator).
Marvel has been experimenting with new storytelling formats as of late. Most recently it entered the podcasting world with Wolverine: The Long Night which has already been commissioned for a second season.
Marvel has previously published many novelizations of its characters, particularly for Young Adult audiences, including books like Black Widow: Red Vengeance by Margaret Stohl and Miles Morales: Spider-Man by Jason Reynolds However, the serials might appeal more to comic fans used to a weekly format.
