The next phase of our interviews of the cast of Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron focuses on Kamil McFadden playing Patriot (Rayshaun Lucas), one of two male members of Marvel Rising’s Secret Warriors. Marvel Rising focuses on empowering young women, but the inclusion of the two male characters continues the show’s message of diversity and inclusion. McFadden was excited to take on the role of Patriot, a legacy hero, and shared that while he’s a minor player in Marvel Rising he still plays an essential role with the team at large.
McFadden caught up with the Marvel Report to talk about just what it means to play a character like Patriot on Marvel Rising, and his role with the cast. The code name Patriot has a long history in the comics, and Marvel Rising drew from multiple incarnations of the Patriot to create Rayshaun Lucas’s character. He has a special suit that gives him Captain America level abilities and teams up with Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) to help her lead the team.
With role models like Captain America and Falcon to guide him, Rayshaun is a strong and relatable character. McFadden himself takes playing Patriot seriously as well. He comes off comfortable with crafting a character providing representation, as well as working with such a powerful and inclusive group of people. Check out our video with the rising star below!
