The Marvel Report had the opportunity to speak with Agents of SHIELD cast members Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson/ Sarge) and Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May) in a roundtable interview at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
Talking about this season, both actors have enjoyed playing enemies.
“I mean I loved our fight scene in the trunk. That was a complicated, tough fight scene,” said Wen about the episode directed by Lou Diamond Phillips that also cut in parts of the Tahiti flashbacks.
“There’s a lot of outtakes from Tahiti. It’ll be on ‘SHIELD After Dark.’” joked Gregg.
At the interview, Gregg also teased what Season 7 could bring and how the show has changed after the finale of Season 5:
“The number one rule in screenwriting is you don’t do a double beat. If you already did that, you gotta do something different. And certainly, you know they took a bold shot. They killed Coulson again, for good it seems like, at the end of Season Five. So there’s a very different set of stories coming in a very different way that the team revolves around through the rest of Season Six which is going to be a little mind-blowing. And then the whole Season Seven just once again then tearing the whole thing down to the studs with some of the same pieces and it’s a very, very, very different Season Seven that we’re really excited about. So it’s an ending that will work based on a lot of story we’ve shot and you guys haven’t seen yet.”
And beyond the final episodes, both talked about the important lasting legacy of the diversity of the show and the meaning that diversity has had to both the cast and fans.
“It’s a little bit closer to what most of us are hoping the world would be like, which is very different from the world that a lot of people are pushing on right now.”
Agents of SHIELD airs Fridays on ABC.
