Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1 is officially over. Sam Wilson is the new Captain America, Bucky Barnes has made amends with his past, and the Flag Smashers have been defeated.
But we still have questions after that action-packed season finale. Read on to find out what we’re still wondering:
What Mission Will the New Captain America Take on Next?
With the news that Marvel is developing a fourth Captain America movie, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing more of Sam Wilson. The big question is what’s next for him?
Before Infinity War and Endgame, Steve Rogers’ story was focused primarily on defeating Hydra and saving Bucky. With the Flag Smashers seemingly defeated, Sam Wilson doesn’t have a big bad in the MCU. Will he go on to face off with the Power Broker? Madame Hydra and US Agent? Or someone new entirely?
While none of his key enemies during his time as Captain America in the comics stand out as a good fit for the MCU, we hope Sam gets a worthy villain to face off with. Captain America 4 still appears to be a ways off so we might meet this new villain somewhere else in Phase 4.
Will Bucky Get a New Superhero Name Too?
Bucky Barnes ends The Falcon and The Winter Soldier still being known as the Winter Soldier. This isn’t the worst thing since he’s done a lot to redeem himself under that name, but we’re still wondering if there’s the possibility of a new superhero name for him in the future.
Although Bucky does take up the Captain America name in the comics, that title is taken. So who else could he be?
Early in the season Sam jokingly calls Bucky the “White Panther,” a nod to his Wakandan nickname “White Wolf.” Unfortunately, Bucky isn’t on the best terms with Wakanda after helping Baron Zemo escape. Ayo tells him to make himself scarce in Wakanda for the time being.
It does seem like Wakanda may forgive him eventually since he did turn Zemo over in the end. So maybe, with Wakanda’s blessing, Bucky could take on the White Wolf name to fully replace Winter Soldier.
Will Bucky and Sam Continue to Team Up?
It seems very likely that these two will continue to work together in the future of the MCU. Their bond has only deepened over the course of the series. We started the season with Bucky ignoring Sam’s calls and ended it with Bucky showing up to Sam’s party with a smile on his face and a cake in his hand (we’ll let it slide that it’s not homemade).
It would be a shame to waste Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s chemistry by not having them team up again. Hopefully that title card before the finale credits showing “Captain America and the Winter Soldier,” means there’s more in store for this dynamic duo.
Whether that’s through another miniseries or in Captain America 4, only time will tell.
Will Joaquín Torres Become the New Falcon?
Justice for Falcon! No, not that Falcon. We mean Joaquín Torres, the new Falcon we should’ve seen this season.
In the comics, Joaquín Torres takes on the Falcon mantle after he’s rescued from the Sons of the Serpent by Captain America Sam Wilson. Although The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s version of the character is a little different, he still has a close relationship with Sam.
Most tellingly, after Sam discards his old wings on Episode 5, Joaquín picks them up. Although it didn’t happen this season, this seems like a guarantee that Torres will be the next Falcon.
Although actor Danny Ramirez didn’t get a lot of screen time this season, he’s a great addition to Team Cap and we hope to see more of him in the future. Will we see him suit up in Captain America 4 or perhaps even sooner?
