Netflix’s The Witcher is barreling towards us quickly, with volume 1 of its third season dropping on June 29th. The second volume drops in less than a month on July 27th, and now Netflix has dropped the Official Trailer during the Summer Game Fest. We now get an extensive look at where Geralt, Yennefer, & Ciri are heading next.
Henry Cavill Hanging Up The Sword
Cavill’s Geralt has been praised since the first season aired in December 2019. Cavill brought the physicality, rough edge, & more to the role we needed from Geralt of Rivia. Sadly, Cavill is departing from the role following the conclusion of season 3. The trailer mainly highlights Geralt’s quest to protect Freya Allan’s Ciri. That has been the driving point of his storylines, and it makes sense to spotlight it here in marketing. Geralt profoundly cares for her and has trained her well in the war to come. Cavill looks excellent as always, and it will be hard to part ways with him as the lead. Thank you, Cavill, for dedicating your time to bringing this iconic character to the screen.
Monsters, New Locations & More Monsters!
The Witcher strives to further the world known as the Continent in each season of the series, and this trailer indicates we are continuing that. As usual, we see new creatures and enemies that look to bring more trouble to our heroes. Allan’s Ciri is more involved in the action this time, as she was training with Geralt during season two. She is seen being chased by what appears to be ghostly forces on horseback; could this be a flashback? There is also more focus on a maze that our characters seem trapped in or are being tested. It’s unclear what is happening, but it seems to be an exciting sequence.
The Witcher Series Will Continue On
The official trailer gives us exciting action and emotional moments to drive home the importance of these characters’ connection. What will be interesting is how the show continues with Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia. The assumption is that the show will not address the change and continue wherever the storylines pick up in its fourth season. Hemsworth has some big shoes to fill as Geralt, but let’s wait to see how the show handles the lead change.
