The ending of Part 1 of Invincible Season 2 is here. It’s easily one of the series’ biggest episodes and will leave us all screaming for more. I figured going in after seeing episode 3 that this would be a big episode. I however wasn’t anticipating the amount of reveals and moments we got. Let’s dive into this episode, and I won’t be covering every single thing here. There are some specifics I want to dive into that I think we all agree are the biggest moments. Omni-Man is finally back!
Mark Hugs His Father Omni-Man After Reuniting
I wanted to highlight the image above because it surprised me, but what happens next doesn’t. They hug, but the tension, the uncomfortableness is felt immediately. I understand Mark’s need as a son to hug his father because the majority of his life has been “normal” with him. The conversation between them here is exactly what it needed to be. Mark letting his emotions out, trying to understand it all, and his father is not able to give him the answers he wants. I appreciate Mark mentioning his mother a lot here cause this situation doesn’t just affect him. Omni-Man feels conflicted, but no matter what he says, he can’t win.
Shortly after wanting to show Mark something, Omni-Man reveals he has another son, and a wife basically. As you would expect, Mark loses it, not understanding what his father is even thinking right now. As we have learned, Viltrumites do not sleep with other species, and now Omni-Man has done it twice producing two children. I feel horrible for Mark because he doesn’t know what to do about all this information hitting him at once. Unfortunately, this is the end of the bad news for Mark today. Omni-Man wants to train his son because he knows Viltrumites will be coming for him after what he has done.
Invincible Facing Off Against A Viltrumite!
The Viltrumites that were looking for Omni-Man in the last episode found him. We aren’t exactly sure how, but after essentially killing Allen The Alien. The Viltrumites were able to find Omni-Man’s location. They instantly attack, and start killing off the aliens on the planet. Mark is tasked with protecting his father’s new wife and son. They fly off into a faraway cave, but I knew this wasn’t going to save them. The Viltrumite you see above appears, and Mark unfortunately gets his ass handed to him. Omni-Man thankfully shows up, and we presume he dies here. Mark isn’t prepared to fight someone on this level. Also, this isn’t even close to being over.
Later on, Mark is having to fight the Viltrumite we saw in episode 3 who has a blade attached to her long hair. Omni-Man deals the final blow, killing her, but Mark is able to turn the fight around. He is only able to do that after his father is screaming at him to fight like it’s life and death. These fight scenes are brutal, and honestly, I didn’t know where this was going. I didn’t expect Omni-Man to get taken down when the battle seemed to be over. Mark watches his father be taken away, while he lays there barely able to move. His father tells him to find his books, and I can only guess they contain how to kill Viltrumites? That is my only guess on what they contain.
General Kregg Talking To Mark About What They Expect From Him
Mark wakes up after some time, and he sees a new character, General Kregg, hovering over him. Kregg gets straight to the point with Mark, and it is a terrible place Mark is placed in. Kregg says that now it’s Mark’s duty to get the earth ready for the Viltrumite invasion. They see that Mark is as strong as them, and will be holding his father hostage to persuade him to do this. Mark tries to respond to Kregg, but that doesn’t go over well. We end the episode with the General flying off, leaving Mark to think over what was said. Obviously, Mark won’t be taking over the planet for the Viltrumites, but what is he to do? I love the dialogue in this show, it’s so well done.
This episode was intense, and I wasn’t prepared for the amount of violence in this episode. We have seen glimpses of Viltrumite strength, but this felt overboard. I bet it’s to prepare us for what’s to come. Robert Kirkman, who created Invincible, mentioned episode 8 of this season is the biggest one yet. I don’t think we are prepared for that. Obviously, we had other things going on in the episode. Including Donald finding out he isn’t himself. He might be a robot of some kind? Not sure, but I assume Cecil cloned him somehow. Also, Mark’s mom seemed to have a breakthrough and pull herself out of her depression. We sadly have to wait for Part 2, I honestly can’t wait for whats going to unfold.
