SPOILER ALERT, you have been warned! After a few months of waiting, Invincible‘s 2nd season has returned. I didn’t expect this episode to dive into everything it did, but it went for it. This episode proves that Invincible deserves to be 40 to 50 minutes an episode. I was losing my mind every few minutes watching this episode unfold. We could go in many directions, but let’s start with the most shocking part of the episode. The end (we assume) of Dupli-Kate & Shrinking Rae
Dupli-Kate with Rex from Invincible
Rex along with Dupli-Kate & Shrinking Rae take on the Lizard League during the 3rd act of the episode. Blood is flying, heroes and villains throwing blows, normal stuff. However, I was not prepared for the episode to make the turn it did. Komodo Dragon, who is a pretty strong character is killing duplicates of Kate, but she keeps coming with more copies of herself. Then the turn occurs, and he slams the last two together, killing them almost instantly. I was in utter shock at this moment, I couldn’t believe it at first. Did they just kill Dupli-Kate off? This show has major stakes, but then again I am reminded of Omni-Man in the first episode killing off several heroes to set the stage for the show. I believe this is the end of her, but maybe there is a twist coming.
Shrinking Rae is also presumably killed off by Komodo Dragon as well. He swallows her, and she begins to expand inside him, but he manages to keep her from growing. This is easily one of the more brutal deaths in the series so far. Rex is now all alone, managing to kill Komodo Dragon, along with another member of the Lizard League. This part of the episode ends with the leader of the group putting a gun to Rex’s head. The crazier part is that this is just one of the cliffhangers of the episode. I am expecting to learn more of what went down when we get to episode 6, this was brutal to watch.
The Guardians Of The Globe along with Invincible and Atom Eve
Another major arc being covered is the Mars’ Sequid storyline set up in Season 1, which is now starting to pay off. the Sequids are in control of the astronaut left behind, and now he is the host of their hivemind. A giant warship with millions of them onboard is heading towards Earth. The Guardians are tasked with reaching the ship in space and stopping whatever is coming. Thankfully, the Martian pretending to be the astronaut reveals vital information about what is happening. Once we get on the ship, all hell is breaking loose. Once again another cliffhanger from this arc as well. I didn’t expect the show to cover this story in this episode, but I am glad they did. It made the 3rd act of the episode so intense and jaw-dropping.
Invincible has proven it easily can handle multiple storylines at once, and make the audience scream for more. Normally, shows don’t cover major arcs in one episode like this, but not Invincible. They aren’t wasting time, and I appreciate them for it. I would rather jump to containing stories rather than just waste time. Every scene made an impact and mattered to the story. The show isn’t perfect, but to me, it’s one of the best superhero shows I’ve seen in a while. Seeing two heroes presumably die in this episode, and I was losing it proved the show’s greatness.
Omni-Man with his son and wife from Season 2 Episode 4
Mark stayed for a while after his defeat against the Viltrumites on Thraxa. He helped rebuild and tried to do what he could after the fight. Mark was tasked with taking care of his brother and heading home. I felt horrible watching Mark explain to his mom about all this, as she was distraught about learning all this information. She surprisingly started to help raise the toddler, even though of her deep issues with her former husband. Mark is doing what he can at this point, and it is a lot to handle. He returned to school, and the info dump from his girlfriend Amber on what he missed was a lot. He missed so much, and I feel this is leading towards a rift or a major conversation down the road.
We also got two more big moments, just when you thought they covered a lot, there is still more. Donald discovered his arm was robotic and confronted Cecil. I didn’t expect this to occur now, but full steam ahead as they say. Cecil reveals and shows Donald he is a android in a sense now. His brain was the only thing intact somehow after the blast that occurred in Season 1. How do you handle this news? He isn’t taking it well. Also, Allen is alive (as I expected) and he seems to be stronger now. His boss Thaedus reveals he is a Viltrumite who left his race and is convinced Invincible is the key to saving everything. This was a lot to handle in one episode, but they pulled it off. What an incredible episode for the show to come back on.
