Clark Kent may be from Kansas, Kal-El may be from Krypton, but Superman is a Cleveland boy. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman is finally making his way back to the big screen in his own solo film, with James Gunn directing.
The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El. Not to mention, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer (Wildstorm’s The Authority), and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. That’s not even the full cast.
After teasing the tease, Wednesday morning, we finally got a true taste of our new ‘Superman’ Thursday morning.
The much-anticipated trailer opens with Superman crashing into the snow, bloodied, calling for Krpyto the Super-Dog for help. Krypto is unbelievably adorable and incredibly powerful. I see comedic relief in his future. We see a ton of shots of Clark and Lois at the Daily Planet, we get glimpses of Green Lantern, Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl, and alien monsters, of course.
The music is beautiful and invokes a lot of happiness and joy, despite the first shot of Superman clearly getting his ass beat by someone. But nothing tops seeing Lois and Superman holding hands, being supportive of one another. We also get a small look at Clark with his father, Jonathan Kent, but no Martha or Supergirl.
The new trailer gives us a little bit of everything, while obviously not giving away the entire film (it’s just a teaser). This is what DC Comics fans have been waiting for. A Superman film that inspires hope and makes us smile.
Being from Cleveland myself, this movie already has a special place in my heart for being primarily filmed in the Land and Ohio in general (Cincinnati included). Being able to recognize where certain things were filmed, having walked down some of those streets, is a surreal feeling. Clevelanders have a special spot in Superman’s long, spanning history and I love that for us.
At CinemaCon 2024, James Gunn wasn’t there in-person, but promised via video to bring the “summer of Superman” to CinemaCon 2025 ahead of its release July 11, 2025. This trailer hints at 2025 being the year of Superman instead.
Along with the new teaser, Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products announced a new line of merchandise inspired by movie. The collection is available online now.
