Hopes & Expectations For DC’s Justice League Intergalactic One-Shot

Justice League Intergalactic One-Shot

Are you ready for an Intergalactic queer adventure? Well strap in and remember the FOC date April 6th because that’s pretty much exactly what DC is delivering to us with the all new Justice League Intergalactic One-Shot.

Coming to us at the end of April is this new JL team up that will include Dreamer, Galaxy, Star Sapphire, Adam Strange and Oliver Queen. Helmed by writer duo Nicole Maines and Jadzia Axelrod with art by Travis Moore. This may seem like an oddball mix but I for one think space adventures naturally lend itself to queerness very well.

Adam Strange from creation to costume is a great mix of Silver Age camp and we all know Ollie will be serving up the sass and beliefs to be on par with Dreamer. If you weren’t aware, both Dreamer and Galaxy are trans characters who have been entered into the DC comic continuity within very recent years.

Both being created by their perspective writers (Maines and Axelrod) who are also trans themselves and use their lived experience to breathe in such life and depth to these characters, and are what have helped to give them such a lasting impact.

Dreamer has been an absolute powerhouse in popularity since her introduction in the Supergirl TV show. Since then, Maines has gone from portraying her as an actress to writing her in the comics. Dreamer is a Naltorian living here on Earth who hasn’t had the typical hero’s journey. While holding onto attributes of our biggest heroes she’s also not scared to be rebellious, get her hands dirty, and stand up to anyone, even other heroes. As a trans character there’s a lot to be said about how she hasn’t been able to follow the typical archetype and how she’s been viewed by others in the world.

Aside from her best friendships with Galaxy and Superman (Jon Kent) she’s been aligned quite frequently with villains and anti-heroes like The Sucide Squad and The Secret Six, albeit not always because of her own free will or intentions. The last time we saw Dreamer was in the 2025 6-issue mini Secret Six series where we saw she was not all that impressed or glamored by the idea of The Justice League, which raises my curiosity in how she’ll perform on this mission and what it will mean next for her.

Galaxy like Dreamer was a recent breakout success in her YA in-continuity Graphic Novel “Galaxy, The Prettiest Star”. While her as a character and Axelrod as a writer have gotten to play more in the world of DC, Galaxy has had substantially less of a presence in the comics. We saw her in Axelrod’s other project “Hawkgirl, Once Upon a Galaxy” in Dreamer’s YA Graphic Novel “A Bad Dream, A Dreamer Story” and in a few cameos here and there like in the Holiday Anthology from 2025.

Not only are Dreamer and Galaxy both trans but they are both alien characters wielding mighty powers who came to Earth seeking refuge. Which helps deepen their connection, friendship and understanding of each other. However this new one shot will be our first time seeing the two bffs as older and established “heroes” They have both experienced what it is to be a hero and to work with the socio-political nature and baggage that it comes with but to varying degrees. Aside from Galaxy’s follow up YA Graphic Novel coming in May, this is the only news we have for her appearing. My hope is that these two combined will open up the flood gates to give both of these characters all the love and spotlight they deserve.

Now that I’ve gone on and on about these two characters I love, let’s actually discuss what this one-shot will be about. So according to the league of comic geeks, this intergalactic adventure starts off because the planet Naltor (Dreamer’s homeworld) and the Green Lanterns charged with protecting it all fall under attack by their wicked Witch Queen, who is attempting to use up all the planet’s dream energy to take over. It’s up to the JL to help free the people of Natlor, with Star Sapphire as the leader, she assembles a team to go save the day.

A few problems along the way however are that Ollie hates space, Adam Strange’s ship is no match for the Witch Queen’s forces and Galaxy snuck Dreamer on the ship along for the mission despite being actively wanted by the League, i mean what can go wrong…right? I personally know that I will be adding this comic to my pull list at my lcs, and I might even have to grab some variants. I think it’s so important to keep showing diverse representation in all storytelling but especially in superhero comics. A medium that is intrinsically about heroism, acceptance, kindness, courage and love. Attributes we can all use more of in this day in age and learn from. So please once again don’t forget the FOC date for Justice League Intergalactic Special #1 is April 6th with the actual release predicted for April 29th. Let’s go sail the galaxy together on a queer space adventure!
