Freeform Orders Cloak and Dagger Straight to Series
Thanks to our friends over at Variety, it seems the Marvel Universe is expanding a little more today. News has dropped that ABC network channel, Freeform, will be bringing beloved Marvel property, Cloak and Dagger, to the screen. The show has been ordered straight-to-series but no writer, director, or cast has been attached to the project yet.
Cloak and Dagger follows two teenagers named Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson who gain superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers while Tyrone can consume things into complete darkness. Cloak and Dagger should be a good fit for Freeform because it is something that can appeal to the young adult demographic while also introducing a possible MCU property to a new network.
Depending on who writes the series, Cloak and Dagger could be a huge hit for Marvel. It’s a series that many fans love and have been calling to see on the screen for a while now, and the company has answered their calls. Freeform isn’t known for superhero shows, but it is good to see Marvel branching out to networks other than ABC.
Hopefully this show will be a big success, because there is major potential for it. Although it’s not yet known whether or not it will be included in the MCU, Cloak and Dagger is a property that can stand on its own and offer a compelling superhero love story without needing to be carried by the chance to crossover with other properties. Marvel Studios will obviously be involved, working alongside of ABC Signature Studios as co-producers.
While we hope to hear more information about the new Cloak and Dagger show break soon, this is awesome news and great for fans to hear. Between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. closing out its third season, Marvel’s Most Wanted moving forward and the Netflix shows putting on a strong performance, Marvel is continuing to pump a strong effort into their television properties. Cloak and Dagger should be a great addition to this lineup and offer something unique and fresh.
