Are you ready for some news about the king of the seas today? Because that’s what this piece of news is all about as The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez revealed today that classic Aquaman baddie Black Manta will be the big bad of the upcoming Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a DC’s king of the sea.
“TheWrap has exclusively learned the bad guy of the movie will be Aquaman’s deadliest and most-famous opponent — Black Manta. “Aquaman” diehards should go nuts for the film’s adherence to DC lore — “Aquaman” first introduced the villain in 1967. In DC’s “New 52” reboot, Black Manta is a man in a suit with no innate super powers.”
James Wan will be directing the film as Gangster Squad’s Will Beall is currently writing the screenplay, based on a treatment by Wan and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns. Aquaman will also star Amber Heard as Queen Mera who is also said to be joining Momoa in Justice League which will be coming out next year with filming going on as we speak.
