Man of Steel was the first chapter to kick of the DC Extended Universe for Warner Bros. Pictures as Henry Cavill became the latest actor to suit up as the iconic Superman and while we have seen him reprise the role in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there has been very little development on a sequel for the Last Son of Krypton since its release in 2013. Fans have been wondering whether or not Warner Bros would be proceeding with an second installment, but it appears that the studio is in fact going forward with another chapter for the Man of Tomorrow.
The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez broke the news today that Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment are in active development of a Man of Steel 2, as a sequel to Superman is a top priority for the studio.
“Despite Superman’s battle with Batman, DC has been silent on a sequel to “Man of Steel” featuring Superman solo, leading many frustrated fanboys to believe that another film wasn’t going to happen. But a person close to the project told The Wrap that Superman is a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance.”
Cavill will be reprising the role of Superman in the upcoming Justice League film which is currently in production with Zack Snyder directing the film. The Wrap didn’t mention whether or not Snyder will be directing the sequel to Man of Steel or if he is even in consideration. While there was no information on a possible release date, remember that Warner Bros. does have two slots for untitled DC films, on October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. Could those slots possibly belong to the sequel as well as Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film? Anything is possible.
