Third Recommendation: NYX
Both Innocence Lost and Target X explored the origins of X-23, but NYX was the first true appearance of Laura in the comic books. NYX follows a group of runaway mutants trying to survive the streets of New York City. X-23 is introduced in NYX #3 as a prostitute who is taken in by a pimp, Zebra Daddy.
With the help of her new friends from the NYX group, Laura is able to find the inner strength to fight back against Zebra Daddy. This story explores Laura’s psychological issues after escaping the facility. The series tackles Laura’s issues with self harming herself. Something that is explored more in X-23’s ongoing series.
