Memorable Marvel Couples

Memorable Marvel Couples

Happy Valentines Day Marvel fans! Whether you’re a fan of the movies, the comics, or the television shows, you likely have a favorite romantic ship or pairing. The following couples are not ranked, but represent some of the most powerful couples in the Marvel Universe! A few honorable mentions also include Bobbi and Hunter from Agents of SHIELD, Cloak and Dagger from the comics and upcoming show, and Rocket and Groot!

Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Agent Peggy Carter

One of the most powerful ships in the MCU is Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. They first met when Steve — just a skinny kid from Brooklyn — entered the Super Soldier program. Even then, Peggy could see that he had an amazing heart and a generous, self-sacrificing spirit. They fought alongside one another during WWII and their love blossomed. Their first onscreen kiss was minutes before Steve’s plane went down. Steve didn’t see Peggy again until many years later. It took years for Peggy to let go of Steve, and even though she did find love in life, her heart always belonged to Steve.

Jean Grey (Phoenix) and Scott Summers (Cyclops)

Jean Grey and Scott Summers met when they were teenagers when they joined Charles Xavier’s original X-Men. They liked each other — but in typical adolescent fashion — they were to afraid to tell the other about their feelings. They didn’t actually start dating until they were in college. Jean and Scott’s relationship is one of the most troubled in Marvel. They got married but were never able to stay happy for long, mostly because of Jean’s connection to the Phoenix Force and her dying several times. Even when he moved on, Jean was still the ideal he wanted. They had a strong emotional connection, but were unfortunately doomed as a happy couple.

Ororo Munroe (Storm) and T’Challa (Black Panther)

Storm has the powers of a weather goddess and Black Panther is the King of a whole nation. They are both very powerful yet restrained in most situations. The two of them fit so well together, and really loved eachother. Storm and T’Challa have a child together. Their marriage slowly fell apart due to the stresses of leading the X-Men and Wakanda. Eventually, the pair divorced amicability. They had a fairly short marriage, but it had a great impact on Marvel. They are both powerhouses who united.

Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) and Piotr Rasputin (Colossus)

Kitty Pryde and Colossus are another couple that had a lot of obstacles in their way. Kitty was younger than Peter, so she pursued him more at the beginning, with little luck. For many years, events kept them apart and they dated other people. Finally, they met up again in Astonishing X-Men #4 (2004)  and started dating and everything went fairly smooth. Peter was by Kitty’s side when she got stuck in a permanently phased state and had to wear a spacesuit to keep herself together. They both made an effort.

Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and Mary Jane Watson

Peter Parker and Mary Jane are one of the most iconic couples in all of Marvel comics. They had a long courtship; Peter proposed several times and was always told no. At that point, Mary Jane was too much of a free spirit to be tied down. They eventually broke up and saw other people for some time. When they did start dating again, Peter proposed and Mary Jane accepted. They get married and had a relatively happy married life for 20 years. Unfortunately, it couldn’t stay that way and One More Day (2007) happened. This event erased all their years of marriage. Currently, they are friends but not dating.

Leo Fitz and Gemma Simmons

Leo Fitz and Gemma Simmons from Agents of SHIELD — better known as FitzSimmons — have always had a close relationship. For a long time they were just best friends. When Leo realized he loved Gemma, she was not ready to change their friendship. Leo waited until Gemma was ready. When she was trapped on Maveth, Fitz risked everything to save her. Once she realized how much she cared about him too they started dating. They are always so enjoyable to watch together and are the romantic glue that holds Agents of SHIELD together.

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

Jessica and Luke have become a popular couple now on the television shows the characters are in. In the comics they have been together for a long time. Jessica and Luke are both strong personalities that found comfort with each other. They support each other in marriage and in the superhero life. Even raising a little girl together.

Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) and Susan Storm-Richards (Invisible Woman)

The Richards family is probably one of the first super couples and the longest lasting. They married, fighting crime side by side. Susan had two children, a boy and girl who both became part of the superhero life. Through all the years and everything they have been through, Reed and Susan have stayed in love.

Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) and Vision

The romance of Scarlet Witch and Vision was an odd one, but also incredibly moving. Wanda truly loved Vision even though he wasn’t human, and Vision learned about human emotion through loving Wanda. Hardly any of their friends understood their connection. Nevertheless, Wanda and Vision had a successful marriage for a long time. Eventually it ended when Wanda lost control of her powers. However, their relationship will always be an example of how two very different people can find happiness together.
