Michael Shannon Frontrunner To Play Cable In Deadpool 2

The search for cable continues in Hollywood as Deadpool 2 ticks closer to it’s production date. With the news that Zazie Beetz has been cast as domino, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox might be closing in on a Cable at last with Michael Shannon leading the pack.

According to THR, Shannon is on the short list of actors along with Stranger Things’s David Harbour. The role is the talk of Hollywood with everyone from Pierce Brosnan to Brad Pitt being rumored for the role. Deadpool’s 783 million dollar take makes a potential sequel a hit and everyone clearly wants a piece of the franchise.  This delay in casting the pivotal character is smart – it’s very clear that Fox wants to do it justice.  While fans might find this delay frustrating, deadpool creator (and cable creator) Rob Liefield has taken the time to remind us that it’s going to be worth the wait.  Much like Deadpool himself, this character deserves to be adapted with care.

Shannon is no stranger to comic book films having played General Zod, nemesis of superman in Man of Steel and worked with Josh Brolin in the film adaptation of Jonah Hex.  While the jump from DC to Marvel shouldn’t disqualify him from the role at all, scheduling might be tight. Mr. Shannon has signed on to the film What They Had which shoots in the spring.  Deadpool is scheduled to begin filming this summer in Vancouver.

Mr. Shannon was nominated for his work on Nocturnal Animals and currently has several films coming soon to theaters including The Current War and a film called Horse Soldiers where he shares the screen with Marvel fan favorite Chris Hemsworth.

Deadpool 2 is slated for a 2018 release date.
