Our TMR reporters got the chance to hang out the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at WonderCon this year, and managed to ask about Fitzsimmons’ future in the midst of all the banter with Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Castecker.
The two actors are as enjoyable to talk to off-screen as they are to watch onscreen, and they’re both as worried about Fitzsimmons and their currently-halted romance as the audience is.
After clearing up that Iain’s name was in fact spelled right, the actors bemoaned the frustrating journey to (hopefully) Happy Ever After. “It’s a rocky road to Perthshire,” Henstridge said. “I don’t know, a lot’s happened now in the Framework. They’re not the same page anymore.”
When De Castecker was asked if he also hoped for a joyful resolution to Fitzsimmons, he quipped, “Sure.” To which Henstridge blithely added, “He’s only human.”
Other topics included Fitz’s father, and Simmons’ upward career mobility. While De Castecker simply said he didn’t know when Fitz’s daddy issues would come into play again, Henstridge had a little more to say about whether she’d like to see Jemma in a position of power. “Yes and no. I think the further up the ladder you get, the harder it is. You get put in tough positions.” For now she prefers playing around near the bottom of said ladder.
As for their favorite Fitzsimmons scene in this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? They both agreed that the scene where Jemma “killed” Fitz, which was fun, weird and charged to play. As actors, the two clearly work well off each other even in an interview setting, and as people it’s clear to see they get along famously.
