Concept Art For Captain Marvel Teases Brie Larson’s Superhero Look

Fans of Carol Danvers have been eagerly awaiting more information about the film. Last year at San Diego Comic Con it was announced Brie Larson would bring Captain Marvel to life on the big screen. Since then news has been scarce (including who is directing the film). However, that doesn’t mean Marvel isn’t hard at work behind the scenes getting ready to bring this character to life.

News has been released regarding what Captain Marvel’s costume might look like in the upcoming film. Several outlets, including Nerdist and Variety, are reporting that Carol’s costume will have a more functional and military inspired look that appears to resemble her suit in the comics drawn by Jamie McKelvie. The concept art created by Andy Park shows Carol in a red and blue suit with with the hala star on her chest. It has a high collar. And a zipper. A more practical utility belt has replaced the decorative sash. The suit also has a tactical appearance, similar to those that already appear in the MCU films.

Hair-Raising News

Captain Marvel's Origin Story Will Be Altered For Movie

Another thing reported was Carol’s hair. There has been a big debate about what Larson’s hair will look like in the film. Recently in the comics written by Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas with art by Kris Anka, Carol sported a mohawk. In the 2014 comics written by Kelly Sue Deconnick with art by David Lopez Carol had longer, more flowing locks. In the concept art her hair appears to be around mid-length. Maybe this to appease both sides? (Seeing as Black Widow’s hair has changed so much throughout her appearances in the MCU this should hardly matter.)

Park stressed that because no director has been brought onto the film yet nothing is final. However, it is still exciting to hear that Marvel is looking create an appropriate superhero costume for their female lead that does not just consist of a bathing suit and boots. Captain Marvel is about to inspire a whole new generation of female (and male) fans. It’s important she looks the part.

Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
