Star-Lord Solo Titular Series Ending with Issue #6

The Guardians of the Galaxy are undergoing some major changes with the end of the “Grounded” arc. That also appears to be affecting the team’s solo titles, with writer Chip Zdarsky confirming that his Star-Lord series will end with Wednesday’s sixth issue.

“Tomorrow is Star-Lord #6, the last issue of the Grounded arc and, sadly, the final issue for the series,” Zdarsky said on his Tumblr (via Newsrama). “I’m immensely proud of what Kris, Matt and I were able to do in those issues: exploring an estranged Peter, finding his footing without the Guardians, on a planet he’s now out of step with.

“And speaking of Kris Anka and Matt Wilson: They elevated this project beyond my wildest dreams. Kris is a master of form and composition and hot, hot abs and Matt’s beautiful colours set the tone for every scene. Each amazing detail in this book is something you can dwell on with wonder, even if you didn’t care for the words. The sadness I feel with the book being over is 100% tied to the fact that we’re not working together still.”

Those looking for one final Peter Quill solo adventure will be able to pick up Star-Lord Annual #1, which is set to release on May 24. Zdarsky describes that tale as a 40-page western-style epic, in which Quill fights for survival. This annual issue will also act as an epilogue for Star-Lord‘s “Grounded” arc.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will be getting a reboot of sorts with the upcoming All-New Guardians of the Galaxy, authored by Deadpool writer Gerry Dugan and drawn by artist Aaron Kuder. The current title’s final “Grounded” arc puts Kitty Pryde, The Thing, and Venom back on Earth, while the Guardians return to their core roster, which includes Baby Groot to help tie in to May’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 film. Star-Lord‘s ending comes alongside the final issue for Rocket Raccoon. These final issues come months after Drax‘s cancellation, while Gamora appears to be in limbo with no solicitations for the months ahead. The remaining Guardians solo titles will be a relaunched Rocket and a new I Am Groot title focused on the plight of Baby Groot.
