Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) will have a more prominent role in Ant-Man and the Wasp. This will be Marvel Studios’ first film where a female character is the leading character. Though the title makes it sound like she’s a secondary character to Ant-Man, director, Peyton Reed says she’ll be the one stepping into the spotlight. The news via Collider, whom Peyton had an interview with.
Peyton to Collider:
“It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”
It’s exciting to see a female character leading in a Marvel Studios film! This is exciting for us, and we can’t wait to see more female characters to lead and even co-lead films. (Captain Marvel !!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, talked about when production of Ant-Man and the Wasp should start:
“Assuming everything stays on schedule, we start filming Ant-Man and the Wasp in June.”
We can’t wait for the official set photos and more information regarding Ant-Man and the Wasp! So let’s hope everything stays on schedule.
What do you think of Hope having a more prominent role? Are you looking forward to more Marvel films featuring female leading characters? Let us know in the comments!
