Following the announcement of a Runaways TV series, which will be coming to Hulu later this year, many have wondered how it would connect to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and had questions about one connection in particular. Speaking with IGN, Executive Producer Josh Schwartz commented on the subject and stated while the series is definitely a piece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, how “it connects or whether it does or not, we’ll leave that to the powers that be.” Schwartz additionally added:
I can just tell you that we were very capable of telling the story that we wanted to tell independent of any of the other Marvel stories that are out there.
As for Tina Minoru, who was previously introduced in Doctor Strange? Well, it seems the series is going to be ignoring that one. While the character appears in the film, she’s never referred to by name and the series has cast a different actress in the role. Schwartz went on to add that she “was only named in the credits so it’s nothing that really affects us.” While some fans might be disappointed with the lack of connection, it isn’t really a major deal as the character wasn’t really used in the film and had many of her scenes cut from the finished product. Runaways hits Hulu starting on November 21st.
