By now, you’ve probably heard of Marvel’s “Fresh Start,” a new initiative that will launch a series of new #1s for Marvel’s key franchises starting in May. Rather than announce all of the titles at once, the publisher has been rolling them out over the past two weeks.
It is the first relaunch since new editor in chief C.B. Cebulski replaced Axel Alonso.
While this is hardly Marvel’s first relaunch in recent years, it does raise some concerns. The “Fresh Start” has faced some scrutiny for coming less than a year after “Marvel Legacy” launched in September 2018. Also concerning for the “Fresh Start” is that only one book of the titles announced so far is written by a woman. That would be Life of Captain Marvel #1 by Margaret Stohl.
The promotional artwork accompanying the release, by Jim Cheung, features several characters who haven’t had a new title announced yet, including Deadpool, Jessica Jones and Daredevil, so it’s possible there are more titles to come.
