Spider-Gwen #34

Spider-Gwen Run to End with Issue #34 in July

Writer Jason Latour confirmed on Twitter today that the current run of Spider-Gwen by him, artist Robbi Rodriguez and colorist Rico Renzi will end with issue #34.

His tweet comes after PreviewsWorld released a press release for Spider-Gwen #34 that included the following quote:

“All I can say is it’s been an incredible journey,” said series writer Jason Latour. “A little itch in the back of our minds became a one shot that lasted 41 issues as of issue #34, spanned across nearly every form of media, and inspired countless cosplayers and artists. Gwen Stacy changed our lives forever – and now she gives us one last gift – the chance to wrap her story up the way we always intended.”

Marvel has not confirmed whether it has any future plans for the title. However, Latour stated that the book had not been canceled but was instead ending on the creators’ terms.

As sad as it is to hear the book is ending, it’s very refreshing to see a series end the way the creative team planned it. The character has grown significantly in popularity since her first appearance in Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

Since then we’ve seen her go against Frank Castle and Matt Murdock, lose her powers and struggle with the Venom symbiote. We can’t wait to see what the creative team has in store for the final issues.

While the future of her standalone title is unclear, we do already know this powered version of Gwen Stacy will be appearing under the new moniker Ghost Spider in the animated film Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors and its accompanying tie-in comics.

Spider-Gwen #34 hits stores July 18, 2018.
