Doom Patrol Spin-Off From Titans Gets Series Order At DC Universe

The DC Universe streaming service is getting another show and this one is directly connected to the mother series! DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV announced today that the Doom Patrol is getting its own series on DC Universe, as a spin-off from Titans.

Set for 13 episodes, Doom Patrol will be kicking off production sometime this year as they aim for a 2019 premiere. Titans will feature the Doom Patrol characters The Chief (Bruno Bichir), Elasti-Girl (April Bowlby), Robotman (Jake Michaels), and Negative Man (Dwain Murphy) who will first make their debut in the fifth episode of Season 1 which is appropriately titled “Doom Patrol.” The characters are said to recur in Season 1. While not officially said yet, it is likely that the fifth episode will serve as a backdoor pilot of sorts.

Executive produced by fellow Titans producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns, Supernatural writer Jeremy Carver is joining the team as he will pen the pilot. David Rapaport, who has cast the entire Arrowverse, Riverdale, and Titans, will be casting the spin-off as well. The series will feature the previously announced characters as well as Kay Challis a.k.a. Crazy Jane and one of the most iconic Teen Titans characters: Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg!

“DOOM PATROL is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TITANS, DOOM PATROL will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.”
