Oh Snap: New Agents of SHIELD Posters Are the New Infinity Stones

The Soul Stone

Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson/Sarge

Last season, we unfortunately had to say goodbye to Phil Coulson, the fearless leader of SHIELD. Or did we? In the Season 6 teaser trailer, we are shown that “Coulson” is still alive, but in the promo “Coulson” says he’s never heard of SHIELD. That assumption being made is that it isn’t the Coulson we’ve come to know over these past five seasons. The character that has Phil Coulson’s likeness is called Sarge, who claims to have never heard of SHIELD. The connection between the Soul Stone and Coulson, you ask? Well, this stone’s ability can allow the soul of said person to be preserved, which would allow them to live even after dying. Someone could have found Coulson’s body, revived him, and given him a whole new identity. The second option? This season could potentially introduce us to the multiverse, giving us a more ruthless doppelganger of him. Both ways are having a part of Coulson live on in the series.

The Time Stone

Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez and Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie

Now acting Director of SHIELD, Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie, and Cyborg Inhuman, Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez may have joined way back in Season 2 and Season 3, but it feels like they’ve been a part of this show for so much longer. So what do these two have in common with the Time Stone? At one point, Mack was a part of a SHIELD faction, and Elena did have human hands. Or, in the time that passed between Coulson dying and Mack becoming Director, he could be wondering if he is worthy of his position and afraid of letting the team down. In the time between Elena becoming an amputee and receiving her robotic arms, she could have been training to use her arms in a more structured fashion.

The Mind Stone

Chloe Bennet Daisy “Quake” Johnson

From 084 to one of SHIELD’s big guns, Daisy Johnson has proved time and time again to be one of the team’s biggest assets. Last season, she was given the misnomer The Destroyer of Worlds by the Kree and General Talbot, which she ended up proving false while fighting tooth and nail to save her friends. So why is Daisy shrouded in the color of the Mind Stone? Looking back over the past five seasons, Daisy always seemed to thinking at least two steps ahead of the others, without having the degrees FitzSimmons share. Add on her encounter with Inhuman Charles Hinton, where she was able to see what would happen in the future in Season 3, and the connection is clear. The ability of the Mind Stone grants the user enhanced mental and psionic powers. Daisy may not be psychic, but her hacktivist skills and immense knowledge on the streets has allowed her to help the team come out on top.

Whether the placement of the colors on the photos was purely unintentional, or specifically matched with each character to be an Easter Egg to each Infinity Stone, the marketing for this season so far has been top notch. The anticipation for Season 6 of Agents of SHIELD is sure to be it’s best yet, and it’s sure to be a roller coaster of emotions.
