As if the world of DC TV wasn’t big already, HBO Max is launching another series from the DC Universe, but with a massive exciting twist. The platform announced today that a Gotham Central P.D. inspired series in the works from The Batman director himself, Matt Reeves! Not only will it follow the complicated police department, but it will be set in the world of The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular hero. With the upcoming DC picture set to be in its own universe outside the DCEU, this is a major game-changer as Warner Bros. has never had anything from the big screen spin something off that airs on the small screen.
Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter is executive producing along with Reeves as well as Daniel Pipski (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Adam Kassan (Tales from the Loop); Rafi Crohn(Tales from the Loop) and fellow The Batman producer Dylan Clark. HBO Max has currently given the project a series commitment. This is how Warner Bros. TV and HBO Max describes the untitled series:
“The groundbreaking television series to be written by Winter is set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham. This marks the first television project for Reeves under his recently announced overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group.”
The Batman will hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
