Marvel’s Phase 4 has officially come to an end, and we have a solid idea of the future slate of projects when it comes to Phases 5 and 6. But what comes after the Multiverse Saga? There are theories suggesting mutants are the main focus after we wrap up Kang’s story arc in Phase 6 through Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. That could be happening, but they will likely not be the only focus in the next Saga for Marvel. Here are some projects/characters we can see happening in Phase 7 of the MCU.
X-Men
We will see some members, or potentially the team, appear before the end of Phase 6. At least, that is our hope as we are waiting for Kevin Feige’s version of these iconic characters. It’s not like with other characters who have never appeared in live-action; the X-Men have had many films from Fox before the acquisition. Feige will unlikely give us a team film until we can adequately establish them in the MCU. It’s possible The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars ties into their appearance, or they could explain their lack of appearance before now. We are patiently waiting for Professor X’s team of mutants to appear, and they will be here before we know it. Maybe Kevin will surprise us with Special Presentations of Storm, Cyclops, and perhaps others before the team-up film occurs.
Shang-Chi 2
With Destin Cretton (director of Shang-Chi) helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, this guarantees we won’t see a sequel to Shang-Chi for a while. Simu Liu, who plays the titular role, won’t be absent till then. At the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the ten rings act as a beacon to something out in the galaxy. That storyline could continue in his sequel film, or it will potentially tie into Kang’s story. Regardless, Liu will appear again in other projects, with many Marvel fans enjoying his first film. It would be ridiculous for Marvel not to do a sequel or to have Shang-Chi not appear until his sequel film. Shang-Chi was introduced in Phase 4 for a reason other than ‘here he is.’
Hyperion
We all know the typical responses when this character is brought up. He is seen as Marvel’s Superman, and you can honestly compare a lot of characters from both sides so that discussion can cease honestly. As we have seen in the MCU, some characters have different origins than their comic counterparts. Hyperion could have that happen to him, and we could establish his uniqueness in this adaptation. The story is essential, as we all know, and this could be a way to introduce a compelling character into the MCU that we will need for villains yet to come. FYI, we don’t believe he is appearing in Loki season 2, played by a particular actor who plays an iconic hero already. It’s also possible he could appear but won’t have a role moving forward past his MCU debut. We don’t see that happening because the MCU needs strong characters for threats out in the deep parts of the galaxy.
Squirrel Girl
At one point, we were supposed to get Squirrel Girl appearing in live-action with New Warriors on Freeform alongside several other Marvel heroes. Unfortunately, that show was put to rest before it truly got going. We could see the MCU creatives using Phase 7 as a way to introduce us to a lot of new characters, like how Phase 4 did. She is definitely on the weirder side of Marvel, but that doesn’t mean she has to be placed on the sideline and not get a chance to shine. The MCU may already have her planned to appear, but we are not sure where with the project slate we have right now. An alternative route is that her first appearance will be part of an MCU Special Presentation like Werewolf By Night.
Thor 5
With how Thor: Love & Thunder concluded, The Asgardian Avenger will be in a different place than where he began in the film. At some point, his adventures with Love (daughter of Gorr) will have them back on Earth, as we would assume it would be because of Kang‘s arrival. The end credit scene sets up Hercules coming after Thor, and that story needs to be told in a Thor film, preferably. While we assume Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi will be back for the next sequel, we hope someone new comes in to handle the next story in his storyline. Chris Hemsworth doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, so we have more Thor to enjoy.
Ms. Marvel Film
We know Kamala Khan is teaming up with her hero, Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, as well as Monica Rambeau in The Marvels, but the character will have big things to accomplish in the MCU moving forward. Her first appearance was the Disney+ series, and there is always the chance that we may get Ms. Marvel season 2. However, her future stories will warrant it being a theatrical film over a streaming series. Don’t get us wrong; streaming shows have their purpose. However, Kamala’s future stories could work on the big screen as the character will be more significant after her appearance in The Marvels and, hopefully, her involvement in the following two Avengers films.
Captain Britain
Some characters are constantly rumored to appear in the MCU. We believe Captain Britain’s time is finally coming. His appearance could tie into Excalibur, a team we personally would like to see in the MCU. Brian Braddock, who takes the mantle of Captain Britain, could introduce us to a new side of Marvel in the MCU films. Brian’s twin sister Betsy who at some point does take the mantle of Captain Britain could also appear. These characters are interesting, and their storylines are intertwined with the Multiverse. They could show up during the Multiverse Saga, and in Phase 7, we launch a film to dive into their characters more. Since we don’t know the entirety of Phase 6, their project could be in that Phase or a future one.
Seeing the amount of projects Phase 4-6 have, Phase 7 could easily be 10+ projects. These are just a few we would like to see in the future, and we may get them sooner than Phase 7. With a mastermind like Feige having it all planned out, as he doesn’t rush things, we have to be patient, and that isn’t always easy.
Feige, we wouldn’t mind more MCU announcements, so…pretty please?
