The energy was high in Hall H on Saturday, July 27, for The Penguin, a spin-off limited series occurring directly after The Batman (2022).
Colin Farrell (Oz Cobb/The Penguin) joined via video chat, along with showrunner Lauren LeFranc, Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), executive producers Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark, and prosthetic makeup designer, Mike Marino.
The entire panel was overflowing with praise for Farrell that he ducked completely out of frame for. A man who can’t readily accept compliments, a stark contrast to the character he’s portraying for HBO’s The Penguin.
Farrell was full of praise for the Penguins that came before him and talked about his first day on set being one of the best days of his career.
“We did the first makeup test and it was one of the best days- I mean, I’ve had so many extraordinary days as an actor and I’ve been fortunate to be in parts of the world that I would’ve never been in and meet people that I would’ve never met and be part of bringing stories to life that I,of course, would never have been part of if I wasn’t an actor, but it was one of the best days I’ve ever had in 25 years of [being] an actor,” Farrell said, gushing about his experience seeing the Penguin’s bust for the first time. “We went into a soundstage in Warner Brothers’ lot and even at 48 I still get giddy when I go into the studio a lot.”
The entire panel was passing the love and compliments around. Feliz was absolutely delighted in Hall H, describing how seeing Farrell in his Cobb get-up for the first time made him laugh so much he worried he wasn’t going to be able to take it seriously enough for the role.
The Hall H audience was treated to some extended footage, heavily featuring Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, daughter of the dead mobster, Carmine Falcone. She plays Falcone with a contained, restrained madness, dark eyes pulled straight out of a Tim Sale panel.
