The Marvel Report stopped to chat with the cast and producers of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at WonderCon this year, and they all had quite a bit to say about the Framework. Below is an interview with the wonderful Jason O’Mara, who plays Jeffrey Mace and confessed it was his first convention appearance for Marvel. He’s usually here but don’t throw rocks at him, because at the moment he’s S.H.I.E.L.D.’s last hope!
As we now know, Jeffrey Mace is the leader of the Inhuman resistance in the Framework. What does O’Mara think draws Mace to the Inhuman cause in every iteration of reality? “Deep down, there’s nothing with Mace’s sense of loyalty,” he responded. Mace has had to lie and deceive others against his will, but “he still wanted to protect humans and Inhumans alike. That’s never changed, and hopefully that will be carried through in the Framework as well.”
We know Mace is loyal to the bone, but at what cost? “Essentially, he would do anything for S.H.I.E.L.D. He’ll die for S.H.I.E.L.D.,” O’Mara assured us. While he did not discuss which regret the Framework removed from his mind, he did divulge the following: “He becomes the, sort of, essence of who he is deep down.” Sounds like while the Framework has brought out the worst in characters like May and Fitz, it’s turning Mace into even more of the hero he was always meant to be.
Finally, when it comes to whether he prefers action or drama, O’Mara was rather philosophical. “I’m always going to enjoy those really well-written, dialogue-driven scenes. But what I think is most challenging about television is doing those scenes and doing the action acenes.
