#SHIELD100: Top Five Agents of SHIELD Plot Twists

2. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey…Stuff

While I had originally intended to have these lists encompass the first four seasons, you can’t not include one of the most dramatic twists of the show – completely reinventing it and giving it a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe by having the team travel through space and time to help save the human survivors of the Lighthouse. It’s also introduced multiple alternate realities to the MCU which could become important later in the light of the Disney and Fox deal.

The twist of traveling in time and space has been a constant surprise for fans watching the fifth season of Agents of SHIELD. The SHIELD writing team has been blowing away longtime fans and giving new people a good jumping on point for the series. They are proving that reinvention is their forte.

This twist is being used to explore the depth of the MCU and it’s alternate realities. Think about it. With the introduction of alternate realities and futuristic timelines, Agents of SHIELD is paving the way for every writer who wants to introduce new characters, bring back old characters, and combine different realities. That’s a staple of comics and again with the looming Disney/Fox deal this unexpected twist of them travelling through space, time, and realities has given them a wonderful opportunity to do some incredible things with the different characters in the MCU.

The great thing about the twists set up by Agents of SHIELD is that the show sets itself apart by creating things that will be used in the MCU at large. It’s a bellewether (something that predicts something else) for the MCU. Since alternate realities are becoming a huge thing on SHIELD, isn’t it likely we’ll start to see things get more cosmic, and indeed reality breaking in the MCU at large? Let the speculation begin!
