It would appear as if the long search is finally over and Deadpool 2 has it’s Nathaniel Summers, AKA Cable. According to the hollywood reporter, Josh Brolin of Sicario and Hail Ceaser will be joining the production as Cable.
Fans will remember Micheal Shannon as front runner to play Cable with Stranger Things star David Harbour on the short list. The role has been the hottest property in Hollywood and Brolin has emerged victorious, making Cable his second Marvel comic book character to date. Brolin can be seen next Summer as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and is rumored to be signing a four picture deal with Fox.
Breaking down that this means four potential pictures (how many of them are Deadpools remain to be seen) Brolin’s presence is sure to give the right gravitas that the role requires. In the comics, Cable is the opposite of Deadpool, a mature figure who’s used to being obeyed and having people take his orders. As the son of Cyclops, he’s considerably familiar with the mutant struggles hopefully hinting that the film might have more mutants involved in the core story.
David Leitch is directing Deadpool 2 and with a rounded out cast that includes Atlanta Star Zazie Beetz as Domino, it’s sure to expand Deadpool’s corner of the universe. The level of care that the production has taken to cast just the right actors is impressive, demonstrating a real commitment to bringing a story to the screen that stays true to it’s comic roots.
You can catch Josh Brolin in Soldado, the sequel to Sicario as well as Avengers Infinity War next year in 2018.
What do you think true believers? Is the oscar nominated actor (Milk, 2009) the right choice for Nathaniel Summers?
