Marvel Legacy Initiative To Have Over 50 Titles

Marvel Legacy has been touted as a huge and forthcoming project meant to re-inspire, re-ignite, and re-introduce some characters previously put out to pasture in exchange for a newer counterpart. The company had been promising to return to its roots, while still keeping the new characters people have grown to love. No creative teams have yet to be announced, but we do know that the first title will bring us back to the original Avengers in the year 1,000,0000 B.C., which in addition to being a 50-page book, per CBR, is promising to deliver a bang to set the series. off. Speaking at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Marvel’s chief creative officer, Joe Quesada, had the following to say about the Legacy series:

“The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it’s a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics,” says Quesada. “It’s a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories. All of which kicks off with the giant Marvel Legacy special.”

All told, there are over 50 issues for fans to collect this Fall. The exact number is 53, but we only know of 52. There are also a number of different items from the past that Marvel is bringing back for the Legacy series. Per Comic Frontline, Legacy will offer spectacular returns of characters, great new stories by the industry’s top writers and artists, heroes fighting villains — this one seems kinda pointless — clean jumping on points for all readers clearly displayed using dynamic new trade dress, a return to old numbering for many series’, and character returns that fans have been clamoring for to Marvel. Marvel Legacy kicks off in September. It will be a 50-page one-shot that is meant to engage the readers’ imagination by taking them back to a distant past — 1,000,000 B.C. — and promises to show fans how “it’s all connected.” Here is Axel Alonso, Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, had to say about Legacy #1, talking about writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic:

“Marvel Legacy #1 will present all fans – new readers and current readers – with an exciting and accessible entry point. Jason and Esad have crafted an epic story that’s chock full of reveals and twists and Easter eggs that are sure to ignite a fire across the industry. The next stage of Marvel’s evolution starts here.”

It’s pretty clear that Marvel realizes fans want the option to read both the new and the old characters. One shouldn’t have to come at the expense of the other. In other words, a reader should be able to enjoy Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers. They should be able to enjoy Amadeus Cho and Bruce Banner. Legacy seems to be aimed at doing that and it feels like Generations will be a glimpse of what we could see this fall.
