RUTH NEGGA AS RAINA
Oscar-nominated Ruth Negga as the Inhuman Raina was another iconic performance that was over far too soon. The actress played a mysterious scientist who worked with Bill Paxton’s John Garrett and others. Their ultimate goal was to learn more about Inhumans and Raina ultimately discovered that she was one with some unusual consequences.
Raina developed spikes all over her body and delivered a heartbreaking performance opposite Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson. Raina, the former scientist turned Inhuman clairvoyant, ultimately predicted Ultron as well as Daisy “leading their people,” a prediction that has come to pass on the Lighthouse with Quake and her allies becoming the main source of support for the Lighthouse’s Inhumans.
Raina’s prophecy has affected Daisy in other ways too, from standing up to Hive after finally being released from his mind control to standing up to her mother and protecting Joey in season 3. While Daisy has proven to be the “leader of their people” that Raina predicted, the clairvoyant was the one who ultimately helped the audience learn just what Daisy’s purpose was in the world of the MCU.
While season five has seen Daisy question that purpose, the character has done far more good than harm, and one can hope she will remember Raina’s words – that she is destined to become a leader of their people and to continue to help others in the MCU.
